Newton Flotman Primary School Gardening Project

Today I had hoped to get a bit of digging done on our plots prior to our next club meeting tomorrow, but unfortunately the weather was against us.

Instead, I collected a car load of used tyres donated by our local motorbike shop, Seastar Superbikes. Thank you Dave for helping me load up! The idea is to create a strawberry wall; Bob Flowerdew showed this years ago on Gardener’s World. The tyres will be piled up, staggered, and filled with compost. Strawberries will be planted in the middles and, hopefully, when there’s a good crop, the fruits will ripen aided by the heat absorbed by the black rubber.

What a great way to show the children that rubbish can be recycled in all sorts of ways, and put to good use.
